Fitness & Conditioning

Our Fitness and Conditioning classes are what I like to call “Fighting Fitness”. So they aren’t your normal fitness type training yet everyone can do it. We even have a 62 year old Lady that does the classes. Obviously we adjust and adapt the exercises to suit your abilities.

These classes are focused on improving Speed, Power, Agility, Muscle Endurance, Cardio Respiratory Endurance as well as you Bodies Functional strength (meaning we focus a lot on Core Strength, Joint stability and Proprioception).

Every session is different, we try and keep things exciting with diverse training methodology as well as exciting variations on exercises. Constantly keeping the mind and Body stimulated in so doing keeping the Neuro Muscular system excited and constantly stimulated. We don’t allow your body to adapt to the training, this forces constant adaptation to take place.

About The Training

Our Functional Core class is all about improving core strength through diverse and varied movements, as well as improving joint stability and proprioception (basically balance). These classes can be low intensity or high intensity depending on the instructor.

We focus a lot on static and dynamic movements forcing the body to adapt and adjust. Through dynamic movement variations we also force the body to improve its balance and spacial awareness.

We do a lot of single leg/arm exercises or unilateral movements, this forces the one side of the body to work in generating force and the other to stabilise the stability of the body while said force is being exerted. This creates a great environment for functional adaptation to take place.

About The Training

Our Cardio Boxing classes are exactly that. They are there to make you sweat and get your heart rate up. We place “less” emphasis on technique, although we will still correct you when your form is really bad.

Our main focus is getting that heart rate up and burning those calories. Cardio Boxing can also involve kicking the bag as well as kneeing the bag then of course the ever fatiguing burpees, push-ups, sit-ups, mountain climbers, squat jumps etc.

A great workout that will really help you release all that pent up frustration you’ve been bottling up inside. So come in and let it all out on the bag.

BOXING

If you don’t know anything about boxing then I’m gonna give you quick breakdown. Boxing is one of the best ways to learn how to defend yourself.

Boxing is a great way to get fit and lose weight. You use only your hands to punch a Bag while moving around. Or if you sparring or competing you would be punching an opponent in a 6 x 6 meter boxing ring. In Boxing you will learn to defend yourself by moving and avoiding punches as well as blocking punches with your hands and forearms.

It’s great for people that don’t like to run or are injured and can’t run as you can also do it standing still and hitting a bag. This allows you to still train around an injury. Also good if you are too heavy to run or walk etc. Then boxing can work amazingly well. When people are really overweight and can’t stand then boxing is really great as they can train from a chair.

About The Training

Junior Boxing is for our kids. This is for kids from about 8 to 16 years of age. It allows them to learn without being intimidated by Adults. This is where we focus on developing a good foundation of the basics.

We focus on what I call Technical Muscle development. Where we focus on developing there boxing specific muscles. Kids are like sponges and absorb knowledge really well so it’s very important for them to be taught correctly from a young age to ensure they have a solid foundation.

Our Junior Boxing also allows kids to socialize outside of there friendship circle getting to be around older kids and younger kids in an environment where there is no peer pressure.

They learn to respect one another, irrespective of age or skill. They learn to listen to there Coaches and understand Authority, but we also like them to ask questions. I believe in a question everything approach.

Just because a Coach says it’s so doesn’t mean he’s right. A Coach should be able to explain why they are doing certain exercises or movements. This also makes for better coaching and understanding of the knowledge being taught.

About The Training

Technical Boxing is where we do a lot of technical drills, combos, sequences, pad holding, movement etc. We also touch on the psychology and philosophy side.

This class is attended by our pros, amateurs as well as members that have a decent understanding of the basics. The reason you need to have a good understanding of the basics and need to have created good foundational habits before attending the Tech class is that it is very difficult to concentrate and focus on advanced multi dimensional combinations and drills while simultaneously performing your basics correctly and maintaining good form.

We firmly believe in developing good functional defensive and offensive “habits”. And by habits I mean being able to perform certain tasks without having to consciously think about them.

Wrestling

With the possible exception of athletics, wrestling is recognised as the world’s oldest competitive sport. Amateur wrestling is the most widespread form of sport wrestling. There are two international wrestling styles performed in the Olympic Games, Freestyle and Greco Roman.

Both styles are under the supervision of United World Wrestling.Wrestling develops agility, balance, speed, power, coordination and uses every major muscle group of the body. This is the one sport that can dramatically improve one’s ability to perform in all fields.

Wrestling is a great sport because it creates one on one competition for everybody. The sport helps young athletes develop important qualities such as self confidence, respect, sportsmanship, work ethic and leadership skills. Champions in this sport come in all sizes.

BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU (BJJ)

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was developed by the Gracie family in Brazil 100 years ago.
It evolved from the traditional Japanese Jiu Jitsu. It also took inspiration from Judo and Wrestling.

BJJ uses grappling techniques to apply severe pressure to certain parts of the body, causing the opponent to submit or suffer severe injury if they do not. BJJ was designed as a self defense system whereby a smaller BJJ trained person could defeat a much larger opponent by using levereage and correct technique.

This was best proven at UFC 1 no holds barred fighting tournament where the much smaller Royce Gracie showed the effectiveness of BJJ to the world by defeating all of his opponents on the night all of whom were a lot larger and physically opposing than himself.

BJJ is practised by everyone no matter age gender or physical ability. It is a great way to get in shape and learn an effective form of self defense as well.

Muay Thai

Muay Thai or Thai Boxing is a Martial art that is the National Sport of Thailand it has been used in the Thai Military for 100s of years. But in a more deadly and lethal format. The 1st being Muay Chaiya and the 2nd been Muay Boran. Over the years they have eliminated a lot of the more lethal weapons used centuries ago and have turned it into the National Sport called Muay Thai or Thai Boxing.

Muay Thai is probably one of the best Styles of Martial Arts for somebody to learn when it comes to defending yourself while standing. It's utilisation of punches and kicks to maintain range and do damage from outside. Then learning how to use knees and elbows in the closer range as well as when in the clinch.

Especially for ladies the knees and elbows are probably the most effective weapon they can use. Then finally clinching, learning how to stay on your feet while doing damage to your assailant while also having the ability to throw them to ground the second the opportunity presents itself makes it an incredible style for self defence.

About The Training

In our beginner class we focus on the correct muscle development through lots of drilling and repetition. Muay Thai uses very different muscles to other sports, so to get the techniques correct you need to develop the correct muscles through correct repetitive movements.

Muay Thai techniques are based a lot on power, and doing as much damage as possible, it is not a point scoring style of fighting, you get scored on damage done. So learning how to utilise you body weight becomes very important.

You will also do a lot of conditioning drills, these drills are about toughening the body up so that it can get used to what it feels like when you get kicked or kneed etc. Getting kicked in the leg can be a frightening experience the first time it happens, so we gradually get your body and legs used to the damage they might take in a real life situation.

You will also do a lot of fitness based conditioning or as I like to call it, technical cardio. This is where you will do 100's upon 100's of repetitions of kicks, knees elbows and combinations so that your body will grow accustomed to the work rate and cardio required to function effectively in Muay Thai.

About The Training

This class is for members with a decent understanding of the basics. Here we don’t spend a lot of time teaching basics, but focus on drills, setups, combinations, sequences, positioning as well as defensive movement patterns and angles to create better offense.

If you struggle to throw a basic Thai kick or knee then you will get a little lost in this class. You must have a decent understanding of the basics. We also spend more time on more advanced techniques as well as using a lot more knees and elbows.

We focus more on the use of elbows with the slightly more advanced members as it’s very easy to cut someone if not performed with good control.

A lot of time is spent on more advanced systems like entries, footwork, eliminating load as well the principles and psychology involved in the fight game. We do a lot of partner drills, pad work, action-reaction counters and clinching as well.

Mixed Martial Arts

MMA is a combination of multiple Martial Arts. It’s is the fastest growing sport in the world. Fighters test themselves against one another using various different styles to see who is the better more skilled fighter.

About The Training

With regards to MMA classes, we work very differently. If you want to do MMA competitively or just to learn, you are only allowed to attend the MMA class or (fighter training) once you have a good basic understanding of all the above styles. You need to have spent a lot of time in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Boxing, Muay Thai, as well as Wrestling.

The reason we have set it up like this is so that when someone eventually gets to a level where they to know enough to be invited to the MMA class, it is not necessary to still have to teach them how to throw a punch, or a kick or a knee, or perform a basic take down, or have to go through the basics of submissions and escapes.

At this point we can focus on MMA. Cage work, ground & pound, takedowns & takedown defence, MMA variations and start putting the full package together. Since we have implemented this system we have found a great progression in the guys overall knowledge.

This is makes for better coaching and understanding of the concepts being taught.
